Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a scenic and exciting trek to the foothills of the tenth highest peak in the world. Also called the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek, the journey of 12 days takes you through charming Gurung villages, pleasant rhododendron forests and scenic trails to the base of Annapurna I (8,091m).

The Annapurna Base Camp  Trek offers a lot of variety in terms of route taken.The trailhead is located at Nayapul, but the trail diverges towards either Ghorepani or Jhinu depending on the route you wish to take. Our 12 Day Annapurna Base Camp Trek follows the former route, with Ulleri as our destination for the first day. The next day, the trail leads us to the famous Magar village of Ghorepani. Located just an hour’s hike away from Ghorepani, Poon Hill is one of the best viewpoints in the Annapurna region. As long as the weather favors you, the panoramic view is impeccable, ranging from Manaslu and Dhaulagiri to Machhapuchhare and Annapurna. Following the enjoyable morning at Poon Hill, we spend the next couple of days trekking to Himalaya via Tadapani and Sinuwa.

The trek to the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) will take us above the 4,000 meter mark. The scenic trail will first take us from Himalaya Hotel to Deurali and then the Machhapuchhare Base Camp (MBC). From MBC, we will need to trek further for a couple of hours to arrive at the Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m). You will witness magnificent views of Machhapuchhare, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna and the Annapurna range from the base camp.

After trekking to ABC, our return journey will mostly be on the same route as before. The easier downhill trek means you’ll get to enjoy more of the scenery of the Annapurna region as well as the culture and hospitality of the local Gurungs. We’ll be at Pokhara in a couple of days. As we catch the flight back to Kathmandu, the 10 Day Annapurna Base Camp Trek will come to an end.

Our representative will be awaiting your arrival at the airport with signboards of your name. They will meet and greet with you and escort you to your hotel. There are two options for the day ahead. We can either take the scenic flight route that will take us to Pokhara in just half an hour. This means we will have a full day of leisure in Pokhara to spend as we like. Or, we can go with the classic drive by road option instead. The whole journey along the Prithivi highway will take around 6-7 hours to complete. Either way, you will have at least some time to explore Pokhara and maybe take a stroll around the lakeside.

We will first drive to the trailhead of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek at Nayapul. Reaching Nayapul from Pokhara typically takes between 1.5 to 2 hours. From there, the actual trek will start as we begin the journey to today’s destination, Ulleri. It is mostly an uphill hike for today. We will pass Birethati and eventually reach Ulleri to complete our warm-up trek in 4-5 hours.

For the morning, we will stroll around and explore the village of Ulleri. After breakfast, we will begin our trek to the famous village of Ghorepani. The residents here mostly comprise of Magar, particularly Poon people after whom Poon Hill is named. The trek today takes you through the pleasant rhododendron and pine forests that slowly open up to the scenic trail with views of numerous peaks. We will arrive at Ghorepani around late afternoon. We can hike up to Poon Hill if you like but it is generally better to save the hike for the next morning.

We get to experience one of the main highlights of this Annapurna Base Camp Trek today; the hike to Poon Hill. The actual hike is relatively short and easy, consisting mostly of climbing hills and stairs for an hour. But for such little effort, the rewards are quite ridiculous. Poon Hill is one of the best viewpoints in the Annapurna region with panoramic views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machhapuchhare and much more. The sunrise view from is here particularly amazing, which is why we will begin our hike early in the morning. After an hour or two at Poon Hill, we will steadily descend back down to Ghorepani. We will have some breakfast at our lodge before beginning the day’s trek to Tadapani. The trek is similar to the previous days, consisting of ascents and descents through the rhododendron forests. We will be at our destination in around 4-5 hours.

The start of the trek will be a downhill descent, followed by the trek through the rhododendron forests today. The occasional glimpses of the Annapurna range will also be a refreshing experience. After following the Kimrong River for a while, we will make the uphill hike to the Gurung village of Chhomrong. An hour more of trekking finally takes us to our destination for the day, Sinuwa.

Wake up to some superb views from your lodge today. As usual, we will being our trek after some warm breakfast. We will pass through the Modi River valley as we trek past Bamboo and Dovan to reach our destination, Himalaya. Remember to rest early and properly today as tomorrow’s trek will be a tough one.

Today, we will experience the main highlight of this trek on our trek to the Annapurna Base Camp. As it will be a fairly long walk from Himalaya, we will start the trek after an early breakfast. We will first begin our climb from Himalaya to Deurali (3,100m). After a brief stop at Deurali, we will continue the uphill hike to Bagar and finally reach the Machhapuchhare Base Camp (MBC). To reach the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), we will need to ascend further for a couple of hours. As we cross the 4,000 meter mark, we will notice the vegetation thinning out and giving way to the bare view of various snowcapped peaks. Finally, we’ll arrive at the Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m) and witness the spectacular view of Machhapuchhare, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna and the Annapurna range. After a while, head to our booked lodge for overnight stay.

Enjoy a comparatively easier trek as we descend back down to Sinuwa. You will notice an increase in shrubs and wildflowers as we descend lower and the vegetation gets denser. The easier downhill trek means you will also have a more pleasant time enjoying the scenery.

Once again, we will simply retrace our steps on the trail we followed earlier in the trek. We will first have a short descent from Sinuwa to the Chhomrong River. We will have climb up the stone paved path next. Following this series of ascents and descents, we will enter the pleasant oak and rhododendron forest and eventually arrive at Jhinu Danda. As we will have some leisure time, visiting Jhinu’s hot springs is a popular option among trekkers.

Enjoy the final day of trekking with an easy trek from Jhinu Danda to Nayapul. Following a 5-6 hour trek and 1-2 hour drive, we will arrive at Pokhara. You can spend the evening exploring the lakeside, going for some boating or simply relaxing at the hotel.

Similar to before, we can get to Kathmandu either by road or flight. The classic option is to take a bus or a private vehicle and drive along the Prithivi highway. This route involves passing by Damauli, Muglin and Kurintar and arriving at Kathmandu in 5-6 hours. If you wish to go for a flight instead, then you’ll get to enjoy the magnificent aerial views of the Annapurna region. You’ll also arrive at Kathmandu in just half an hour, which means a full day to spend in the capital as you like. In the evening, we will have traditional Nepali cuisine as farewell dinner at a restaurant. We hope your time with Hoshizora Treks and Tours has been a good one.
