Muktinath Helicopter Tour is a pilgrimage tour designed to take you to the sacred Muktinath temple via an exotic and comfortable heli ride.
Muktinath (3,800m) is a Hindu/Buddhist temple, nestled at the lap of the Thorong La high pass. Although the temple was built in reverence of the Hindu godhead Lord Vishnu, both Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims hold this temple as sacred for various reasons. Thousands of Hindu devotees make the tough journey to this remote temple every year in hopes of being liberated, as Muktinath is known as a ‘place of liberation’. According to Buddhist legends, Guru Rinpoche, founder of Tibetan Buddhism, meditated here on his way to Tibet.
Aside from the main temple, there are a number of interesting things to explore nearby. The two holy ponds and the 108 water taps are said to wash away your sins. There is a never extinguishing flame at the Jwala Mai temple nearby. Another popular activity among visitors is collecting shaligrams which are said to a form of Lord Vishnu.
The Muktinath Helicopter Tour isn’t a purely religious tour. The fascinating views of the desert-like yet mountainous landscape of the region is a very unique sight, reminiscent of the vast Tibetan plateau. The views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhare, Hiunchuli, Nilgiri and various other peaks from the comfort of your heli is another memorable experience. This helicopter tour to Muktinath offers a religious, cultural and adventurous experience, all combined in one package.

The Muktinath Helicopter Tour can be done all year long as it is a single day tour. The actual tour takes no more than a few hours to complete, meaning as long as the weather looks good, the tour can be done in any season. However, you may certainly find some seasons to be better than others depending on your preferences.
Two seasons are recommended as the best times for the tour; spring and autumn. They are also the peak seasons for trekking and tourism in Nepal, and for good reason.
Spring (March – May) presents an immaculate combination of blooming nature and greenery with crystal clear views. The verdant hills get filled by rhododendrons, junipers and other wild flowers and the skies are clear with barely any clouds, meaning you get to enjoy some amazing views and scenery.
Similarly, autumn (September - November) is also known for offering some of the best views throughout the year. The monsoon rain washes away most of the dust and pollution for a while, meaning you get to enjoy some amazing mountain views even from the cities. This is also the most auspicious time of the year for Nepal, as major festivals like Dashain and Tihar lead to a whole month of holidays and festivities. Thus, visitors during this period get to enjoy the pleasant and festive vibes during their stay.
The Muktinath Helicopter Tour can also be performed in winter. Winter touring can be hit and miss, as the days tend to be hazy with low visibility around the mountains. However, if you have enough time to spare, waiting for a clear day means you get to enjoy the very best views possible.
A unique feature of the Muktinath Helicopter Tour is that it can also be done during monsoon with no issues. The Manang-Mustang regions are located in the rain shadow of the Dhaulagiri massif, making it one of the few locations open for trekking/touring during monsoon.
The Muktinath Helicopter Tour is an easy tour that can be performed by pretty much anyone. Travelling during the tour is done via private vehicle on land, and by heli in the air. Little to no walking is involved which means this tour is as easy as can be.
The max altitude reached during the tour will be at Muktinath (3,800m). Although we are at quite high altitude, we will have an hour or so of ground time. Please do inform us beforehand if you have a fear of flying/heights, or some health condition that we should know about.
The Muktinath Helicopter Tour takes you to the arid and windy valleys of Mustang, with landing near Muktinath (3,800m). The weather and temperature will be dramatically different from your current location. The difference will be easily noticeable as you gain altitude, which means you need to be accordingly prepared as well. Wearing proper clothing by layering and having UV protection to combat the strong sunlight are obvious things to remember. In addition, we also recommend:
Day 01: Flight (Kathmandu – Jomsom – Muktinath – Jomsom – Kathmandu)
6:00 AM: We Fly from Kathmandu to Jomsom. Enjoy the View around. Jomsom is one of the most beautiful town of this region. Fly to Muktinath. Visit holy Muktinath temple and explore around. Enjoy breakfast and sightseeing. Muktinath – Kathmandu total 3-4 hours
The Muktinath Helicopter Tour begins early in the morning once we pick you up from your hotel. We will head to the Tribhuwan International Airport via private transport. After all preparations are complete, we will board the heli and begin our journey. We will first fly over the capital, where you’ll likely recognize the hills near Budhanilkantha and the lush forests of Shivapuri National Park. In half an hour or so, we’ll be flying over Pokhara and you’ll get to enjoy astounding views of the Annapurna region. Soon, we will land at the airport in Jomsom where we will have a short break for refueling.
After around 15 mins, we will continue the Muktinath Helicopter Tour. Enjoy spectacular bird’s eye views of the Himalayas with various peaks like Annapurna, Machhapuchhare, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Hiunchuli and more! Soon, we will arrive at our main destination, Muktinath.
We will have an hour or so of ground time at Muktinath. Make sure to utilize this time properly; visit the main temple, the two holy ponds, the 108 water spouts, the Jwala Mai temple and other interesting locations nearby. We will have our breakfast at a restaurant/lodge nearby before we begin our return journey.
The reason why we need to leave after only an hour is because of the altitude we are at. Trekkers slowly gain altitude over more than a week to reach the Muktinath (3,800m). We, on the other hand, have covered this distance in just an hour or so. We are at risk of altitude sickness, and it can be a real threat if not taken seriously. Thus, we will leave after only a short while at Muktinath.
On the return journey, you’ll get to enjoy more astounding aerial views of the Himalayas from the comfort of your heli. We will follow the same route as before and have a brief stop at Jomsom for refueling. We will have a similar stop at Pokhara if necessary, otherwise we will continue straight on to Kathmandu.
