Kathmandu Chitwan Tour is the perfect tour package for those who wish to experience the natural beauty and diversity of Nepal. The tour starts in the historic and culturally rich capital, Kathmandu, continues to the enchanting lakeside city of Pokhara and ends at Chitwan, known for its lush forests and diverse wildlife.

Kathmandu

Kathmandu is not only the political capital, but also the center of culture and history in Nepal. The city is home to countless temples, shrines, stupas, monasteries, palaces and more spread out throughout the valley. As it isn’t possible to fully explore the capital in a single day, we will visit only the major UNESCO World Heritage Sites on our tour. Starting with the holy Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, it is a temple complex with historical ties and origin myths that date it back over a millennia. The Buddhist counterpart to Pashupatinath is Boudhanath, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world. Swayambhunath is a fascinating mixture of both Hindu and Buddhist cultures and architecture, with its origins tied to the start of life in the valley itself. The old palaces of the capital, the Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan Durbar Squares are also amazing pieces of Nepali architecture.

Chitwan

In addition to Pokhara, Chitwan is another must-visit location for nature enthusiasts in Nepal. As the first National Park of Nepal, the Chitwan National Park is home to a diverse variety of plants, birds and animals. The major and rare species in this sanctuary include the Bengal Tiger, One horned Rhinoceros, Asian Elephants, Clouded Leopards, Bengal Florican, Spotted Eagles, Peacocks, Dolphins, Gharials and more. Jungle Safari via jeep or on elephant-back is the most popular activity in the Chitwan National Park. Apart from this, bird watching, rafting, the Tharu community cultural tour etc. comprise the other popular activities in Chitwan.

Best Season for Kathmandu Chitwan Tour

Unlike trekking, the season isn’t a major thing to consider when going for a tour in Nepal. However, some periods are certainly better than others depending on your preferences. We recommend spring (March – May) and autumn (September – November) as the best periods for the Kathmandu Chitwan Tour. These are the peak seasons for tourism in Nepal as they have the pleasant and stable weather with generally clear views. With that said, the tour can also be performed in winter and monsoon without any hindrances.

Kathmandu Chitwan Tour Difficulty

Our Kathmandu Chitwan Tour is an easy tour that can be completed in less than a week. The tour is performed at fairly low altitudes and involves very little walking. Thus, this 05 day tour can be performed by almost anyone regardless of age and experience. Only minimum fitness level is required for this tour.

Outline Itinerary

Day 01: Sightseeing tour in Kathmandu (1,400m)

Day 02: Drive from Kathmandu to Chitwan (6 – 7 hours’ drive)

Day 03: Jungle Safari Tour in Chitwan

Day 04: Bird watching in Chitwan National Park

Day 05: Return drive from Chitwan to Kathmandu (6 - 7 hours’ drive)

You’ll be picked up from your hotel or designated meeting point in the early morning today. To start the tour, we will first head to the Pashupatinath. Dedicated to the Hindu deity Lord Shiva. It is regarded as one of the holiest Hindu temples and attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees every year, particularly during the festive occasions of Teej and Shivaratri. After observing the morning prayers and some ongoing rituals for a while, we will move on to the nearby chaitya of Boudhanath. It is one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world and the environment surrounding this location is amazing. The whole area around Boudha is home to various other small and large monasteries constructed by devotees.

After breakfast near Boudhanath, we will move on to our third UNESCO World Heritage Site, Swayambhunath. This stupa complex, perched on top of a hill, is also fantastic vantage point which lets you view most of the Kathmandu valley. Once we spend some time here and explore the various Hindu and Buddhist shrines here, we will head back to our hotel. Considering we have enough time, we will also have a brief visit to the old palace of Kathmandu, the Kathmandu Durbar Square.
