Lhasa City Tour (Fly in/Fly out) offers you the chance to explore the Shangri-like capital of Tibet and its fascinating history, culture and religious values.

The journey to the ‘roof of the world’ is sure to be exciting, starting with the scenic flight over the Himalayas from Kathmandu to Lhasa. The Lhasa Gonggar Airport is one of the highest altitude airports in the world. For the first day, there is not much else to do other than some light exploration and acclimatization. However, the second day is an experience on another level. With the chance to visit the summer and winter residences of the Dalai Lama, i.e. the Potala Palace and Norbulingka Palaces, this day will be one to remember. Although they serve different purposes now since the Dalai Lama’s exile half a century back, both these palaces are some of the finest showcases of Tibetan architecture, culture and values in general.

The Lhasa City Tour offers a similar sentiment and experience on the third day as well with the visit to Jhokang Temple. Also known as Jhokang monastery, this is regarded as the spiritual heart of Tibet, and thus, it is the most sacred and important temple in Tibet. Sightseeing across Lhasa and visiting the various notable locations including Sera monastery, Ramoche Temple, Drepung Monastery, Lhasa Medical Institute, Tibet Museum etc. are memorable experiences as well.

Some important things to consider for the Lhasa City Tour include best time as well as difficulty. As this is only a city tour, it is quite easy in terms of difficulty and is suitable for pretty much everyone as long as they are healthy. Accommodation and transportation are well developed and accessible as well. As for the best time, May - October is generally considered as the peak time for tours in Tibet. The weather is pleasant with clear skies and fantastic views, which is why we recommend this time as well. If dealing with the peak season crowds and hiked up prices are too much of a hassle for you, we can also arrange the Lhasa City Tour during other times of the year.

Hoshizora Treks & Tour offers this Lhasa City Tour in addition to other tours and treks like Tibet Overland Tour. If you would like to make any modifications to our default itinerary or have any inquiries, please feel free to contact us

Get ready for an exhilarating day of sightseeing and touring around Lhasa and its UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Our first destination is one of the most famous locations in Lhasa, the Potala palace. This 16th century palace/fortress used to be the winter residence of the Dalai Lama. Situated at 3,700 meters altitude in the center of the Lhasa Valley, the Potala Palace is one of the most amazing exhibitions of Tibetan architecture. Our second destination for the day, Norbulingka is another fascinating show case of architecture and culture as well. As the counter part to the Potala Palace, it used to be the summer residence for the Dalai Lama until his exile. Built around a century after the Potala Palace, Norbulingka is considered largest man made garden in Tibet. After the full day of sightseeing, we will head back to our hotel for overnight stay.

Situated a few kilometers north of Lhasa, Sera Monastery is one of the great three university monasteries and hermitage of Tibet. Jokhang Temple / Monastery is considered as the most important and sacred temple in Tibet. The oldest parts of the temple were built almost 1,500 years ago, and it has come to be a beautiful assimilation of Tibetan, Indian Vihara as well as Nepalese architecture. After we visit the spiritual center, we will take some time to explore the Barkhor Square and Market. As usual, our overnight stay will be at the hotel.
