Revel in the grandeur of the world’s highest peak, Everest, admire views of Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and more and experience the magical Khumbu region on our Everest Short Trek!
Our 07 Day Everest Short Trek is the gentler cousin of our standard Everest Base Camp Trek. Although the trek only leads up to Khumjung or Tengboche at most, the mesmerizing views of some of the highest peaks in the world with the touch of Sherpa culture and lifestyle is still an exhilarating experience. This trek is also popularly known as the Everest View Trek or Everest Panorama Trekking.
As with most other treks in the Khumbu region, the Everest Short Trek starts with a flight to Lukla. The trail passes through Phakding, Monjo and various other Sherpa villages to the major settlement of the region, Namche Bazaar. With just a few days of trekking, we are at 3,500 meters altitude and the mountain vistas are quite splendid already. However, it only gets better from here.
On the fourth day, we will trek up to Everest View Hotel, followed by the hike up to Khumjung. Everest View Hotel (3,962m) is located a short distance further from Syangboche’s airstrip. True to its name, Everest View Hotel offers one of the best Everest in the region. Trekkers routinely stop at the hotel in the course of their journeys, either it be during the Everest Base Camp Trek, Everest Heli Tour or Everest Three Passes Trek.
Khumjung is a traditional Sherpa village where you can get an unfiltered and genuine experience of Sherpa lifestyle and culture. Needless to say, the close up views of Everest and other peaks are quite stunning as well. The two popular attractions in Khumjung are the Edmund Hillary School and the Khumjung Monastery – known to house the scalp of the Yeti!
With our main objectives accomplished, we will now begin our return journey. Enjoy trekking through the scenic trails past the Sherpa villages, monasteries and forests once more. We will retrace our steps all the way to Lukla. As we catch the flight back to Kathmandu, the 07 Day Everest Short Trek will come to an end.
Hoshizora Treks & Tours offers custom itinerary for the Everest Short Trek along with other treks in the region like Everest Base Camp Trek, Everest Three High Passes Trek, Gokyo Lakes Trek, Pikey Peak Trek and more.
Choose the Everest Short Trek for a quick yet rewarding experience in the Everest region, ideal for those with limited time. This trek offers stunning mountain views, cultural encounters with Sherpa communities, and a taste of the Himalayan trekking experience without the extensive time commitment required for longer treks. It's a perfect introduction to the beauty and adventure of the Everest region in a condensed itinerary.
Everest Short Trek is a fairly easy trek compared to the other endeavors in the Everest region. Although the trek takes you up to altitudes of almost 4,000 meters, the short duration of our stay (3-4 days) gives it only a moderate difficulty rating at most. Altitude sickness is also generally not an issue on this trek despite the fairly high altitude.
The Everest Short Trek is doable all year long. However, some seasons are obviously better than others depending on your preferences. Spring (March – May) and autumn (September – November) are generally the best periods for the trek thanks to the stable weather and clear views during the periods. Winter trekking is also possible but proper preparation is necessary for it. The temperature tends to drop very low during winter, particularly at higher altitudes. Extra snowfall means you get to enjoy extra snow on the mountains but there is also a possibility of passes getting blocked off and lodges remaining closed if the snowfall is excessive. Monsoon is the off season for trekking in most parts of Nepal. The unpredictable downpour can mean mediocre views and a threat of landslides and floods. We only recommend this period for keen naturalists who wish to enjoy the blooming nature of this season.
During the Everest Short Trek, accommodations typically consist of tea houses or lodges along the trail. These lodges offer basic yet comfortable rooms with shared bathrooms. You can expect amenities such as beds with blankets, hot meals, and communal dining areas, providing a cozy and convenient place to rest after each day of trekking.
During the Everest Short Trek, meals are provided at tea houses or lodges along the route. You can enjoy a variety of local and international dishes such as dal bhat (rice and lentils), noodles, soups, vegetables, and snacks. Meals are hearty and designed to provide energy for trekking, with options to accommodate different dietary preferences and needs.
For the Everest Short Trek, you will need permits including the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entry Permit. These permits can be obtained in Kathmandu or directly in Lukla before starting the trek. Additionally, a TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) card is required. It's essential to obtain these permits to comply with local regulations and support conservation efforts in the region.
The Everest Short Trek typically involves a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, which serves as the starting point for the trek. The flight to Lukla offers stunning views of the Himalayas and is an adventure in itself. From Lukla, the trekking journey begins on foot, with no motorized transportation along the trail. Porters may be hired to carry equipment and supplies during the trek, but transportation between trekking points relies solely on trekking on foot through the beautiful mountain landscapes.
For the Everest Short Trek, it's advisable to hire a local guide and possibly a porter depending on your preference and needs. A knowledgeable guide can enhance your trekking experience by providing insights into the local culture, ensuring safety on the trail, and navigating through the terrain. Porters can assist in carrying your belongings, allowing you to trek more comfortably and enjoy the journey. Hiring local guides and porters also supports the local economy and ensures responsible trekking practices in the region.
