Our 07 Day Mardi Himal Trek starts from the trailhead at Kande, which is reached via a short drive from Pokhara. On the first day, we will make the short climb up to Australian Camp and already get to enjoy some superb mountain views. The next couple of days consists of a quiet walk along the serene forested trails through Forest Camp, Low Camp and Badal Danda up to High Camp.

The fourth day of the trek will be a fairly tough one as we make the climb up to the Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,450m). We will pass through Upper View Point (4,200m), and trek for a couple more hours to reach the base camp, both of which offers some fantastic views of mountain vistas.

Our return journey will be much easier as most of the remaining journey will be downhill trekking. We will stop for a day at the village of Sidhing, situated away from the hustle and bustle of the major trails. We will also possibly have a free day in Pokhara, which opens up a lot of possibilities for exploration and further traver lling. The Mardi Himal Trek will finally be completed as we make the return journey to Kathmandu.

Mardi Himal Trek Difficulty

Mardi Himal Trek is a moderate difficulty trek that takes you up to altitudes of 4,450m (Mardi Base Camp). The trek mostly involves trekking on hilly trails for 5-6 hours a day. This is a short, week long trek that can be performed by people with no trekking experience as well, as long as they are physically fit.

Best Season for Mardi Himal Trek

Mardi Himal Trek can be performed all year long. The spring (March – May) and autumn (September – November) are generally regarded as the best periods for the trek as they have offer the best views with clear skies and stable weather.

Winter trekking is a good option for those who wish to enjoy the best mountain views with extra snowfall. However, the temperature can drop below zero and lodges can sometimes remain closed because of this. We advise being properly prepared if you are thinking of trekking during winter.

Monsoon trekking is possible but not recommended. Monsoon is the off season for trekking, and for good reason. The weather tends to be unpredictable during this period and cloudy skies means subpar views as well. The trails can also become dangerous due to the rainfall.

How to get there

This trek will begin from Pokhara and end there like other trekking routes in Annapurna except for the Annapurna circuit. Pokhara is 200 km west of Kathmandu city. Daily tourist buses run from Kathmandu to Pokhara takes around 7-8 hours. Most of the domestic airlines fly to Pokhara from Kathmandu every day. 

The starting point of your trek is after a 1-hour drive from Pokhara, crossing the suspension bridge over the Modi Khola river and you will continue trek slowly passing through terraced fields and villages with stunning views of Machhapuchare and Annapurna Peaks and continue your journey to Tikhedhunga.

After Tikhedunga, you will pass through villages and the Rhododendron forest after walking for a while you will get to Ghorepani. After night spending at Ghorepani, you must walk uphill to the viewpoint to see the first light of sunrise illuminates in Tukuche Peak and Dhaulagiri Peak.

The best time to trek in Ghorepani Poon Hill is from September to early December and from January to May. In this time of year, the climate is warm, the sky remains clear and the wind flow remains comparatively slower than other months.

Since the trek is an easy one at fairly low altitudes, winter trekking is also possible. It is a good option for those who wish to enjoy the best mountain views with extra snowfall. TIMS card is only valid for a single entry to the park every time you exit you will need a new TIMS card to enter the park again. If you are planning to do several other trekking inside the Annapurna region it is cheaper to stay inside the park than go back to Pokhara after every trekking.
